What would you do or trade for a year’s supply of Black Star Beer?

Would you tattoo a giant red bronco on your back or fork over your precious taxidermy water buffalo? Prove it at The Black Star Barter!

Black Star beer invites you to participate in the Black Star Barter on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at the Great Northern Brewery in Whitefish, Montana. Please join us and bring any beer-worthy object or talent that you think is worth a year’s supply of Black Star! We’re entertaining all kinds of crazy offers in exchange for 52 cases of Black Star beer. Contestants will be judged on: creativity, awesomeness, thoughtfulness and enthusiasm.  Barter items must be present in order to win and there will only be one winner so barter wisely beer-lovers!

Contestants may register their barter submission at the Great Northern Brewery on Saturday, February 4th beginning at 11 a.m. MST until just before the start of the barter at 4:30 p.m. MST. The Black Star barter will begin immediately after the Whitefish Winter Carnival parade so head over to Railway & Central Avenue directly after to enjoy local food trucks, music, beer gardens and barter entertainment!

If the judges choose you as the ultimate barterer you’ll be walking away with 365 days of pure liquid gold; the greatest prize ever conceived by man, Black Star beer.

Black Star Barter 2011

At the 2011 Black Star Barter over 1000 spectators came to watch contestants barter their most over-the-top, outrageous submissions to try and win a year’s supply of the crisp, refreshing, double hopped golden lager.

There was an amazing display of talent, filled with both creativity and absurdity. Participants included familiar faces of many Whitefish residents as well as some visitors from Great Falls, Missoula and Kalispell. From singing dogs to fine woodcraft, whitewater rafting trips and personal aerial drops of beer to your doorstep, every submission was worthy of Black Star Beer.

While the competition was tough, some of the highlights included a young family of four willing to trade their hog and two egg-laying chickens, complete with a Black Star Beer rendition of Green Eggs and Ham. One gentleman offered his handmade Black Star athletic ensemble, which included a jock strap adorned with vintage Black Star bottle caps.  Everyone’s hearts went out to the harmonious singing duo. A hound dog named Nishka and his 5-year-old harmonica-playing owner.

With their submission of a year’s worth of hilariously creative radio ad spots, filled with colorful vernacular and cunning wit, Tucker and Leah from Missoula, Montana won over the judging panel. Equipped with prerecorded sound bites and an anecdotal commentary of the greatness of Black Star Beer, Tucker and Leah took home the gold — 52 cases of Black Star Double Hopped Golden Lager.

Ryan Garnish – made $2.40 in change disappear into his nose!
